A veneer is a very thin piece of material, most often porcelain, that is applied to a tooth in the esthetic zone to either restore a decayed tooth or to improve esthetics on healthy teeth. It is a fairly non-invasive procedure with minimal removal of tooth structure, meaning that the majority of the tooth is left intact. Veneers can be used to close gaps between teeth, remove surface imperfections, change tooth shape, improve symmetry, improve colour, or even restore a tooth to its original appearance.

The sequence for veneer treatment is identical to that of a crown, but with much less need for tooth structure removal.
